Mabel Geneva Floyd's Obituary
Mabel Geneva Floyd, age 88, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Fredonia, Kansas. She was born on July 25, 1923 in rural Humboldt, Kansas the daughter of George Washington and Doris Jane (Horton) Cowan.
On September 18, 1942, Mabel was united in marriage to Lester Claude Floyd in Oswego, Kansas. Mabel was a member of the First Christian Church in Humboldt where she was baptized as a child. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #1654 in Chanute. Mabel enjoyed sewing, reading and fishing.
Mabel is survived by four sons; Lester C. Floyd Jr. of Chanute, Kansas, George M. Floyd of Buffalo, Kansas, Charles V. Floyd of Chanute, Kansas and Tommy L. Floyd of Fredonia, Kansas, two daughters; Sylvia J. Schaffer of Chanute, Kansas and Becky Bockover of Benedict, Kansas, two brothers; George Cowan of Enid, Oklahoma and John Cowan of Neodesha, Kansas, three sisters; Peggy Johns, Marie Miller and Jo Callarman all of Chanute, Kansas, twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and fourteen great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lester C. Floyd, infant brother Tommy, sister Roberta Hamlin and grandson Arron Schaffer.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to either American Cancer Society or American Heart Association and may be sent to Countryside Funeral Home, P.O. Box 247, Fredonia, KS 66736.
