Mabel Pauline Joy's Obituary
Mabel Pauline Joy age 87, died Monday, May 4, 2009 at Fredonia Regional Hospital. Mabel was born October 20, 1921 in Neodesha, Kansas. She was one of eight children born to Uri Sherman and Alta May (Jones) Coats.
Mabel had performed various jobs throughout her life, including being a welder at the ship yards in Oregon during World War II. She was a member of the Buxton Christian Church. She loved to go dancing and was known for her wonderfully bright smile.
On April 24, 1938 Mabel married Sherman A. Joy. Mabel and Sherman were married for 47 years, until Sherman’s death of November 5, 1985. After Sherman’s death Mabel enjoyed her companionship of 15 years with Dewey Myers until his death in 2004.

Nine Grandchildren, several great and great-great grandchildren
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband Sherman, three brothers: Paul, Keith and Lester Coats, four sisters: Helen Clemens, June Sheppard, Louise Rash and Arlene Tindle, and one grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday May 8, 2009 at Countryside Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Benefiel officiating, burial to follow at Fredonia City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday May 7, 2009 from 2 until 6 pm with the family receiving friends from 5-6 pm.
