It was our distinct honor to meet Margaret back in 2018 and briefly interview her (see photo) for our documentary on Chanute native son Eden Ahbez (formerly George McGrew), composer of the 1948 hit "Nature Boy." Margaret taught music during our subject's high school years and, to our astonishment, remembered George as a musically gifted student. Our condolences to the family of this remarkable woman.

Margaret was my grade school music teacher. I will always remember her telling us that when we sing it is YOU not CHEW. We did the Play the Nightingale one year and I played the part of the Nightingale. I wear glasses. She told me birds don't wear glasses so I had to do the play without them. Couldn't see a thing. LOL. She was an awesome teacher. And to this day when I sing I think of her. Stand up straight, breathe and DONT SAY CHEW! WHAT A MARVELOUS LADY.
May you be blessed in heaven as you blessed so many in our community with your talent and passion for music. You started it all for me and I thank you God for you. May your family be comforted in this time of loss.

She was my music teacher when I was in first or second grade, and I am 75 years old now. I will always remember her. May she be lifted up by angels to the throne of God.
She was my music teacher, piano teacher, and then in the 80’s my landlord. She will be missed.
Mrs. Hollenshead was the best ever music teacher. She demanded respect and we gave it to her. Truly a beautiful person.
