Marilyn Edna Sauder's Obituary
Marilyn E. Sauder, age 81 died Monday, August 21, 2017 at Eureka Nursing Center. Marilyn was born November 20, 1935 in Rural Virgil, KS, the daughter of William R. and Mabel E. (Young) Phillips.
On February 25, 1952 Marilyn was united in marriage to Dale Dean Sauder in Nevada, MO. Marilyn and Dale were married for 65 years. Dale and Marilyn met as young people. Dale drove the school bus and Marilyn was a passenger. They also competed in Spelling bees in Eureka. Marilyn and Dale had 2 children: Sheila and Ron.
During her working years, Marilyn worked in the business office at the Wichita Clinic and was an insurance supervisor at St. Joseph Hospital where she retired in 1996. She and Dale then moved to Bella Vista, AK to enjoy their retirement. Marilyn then went to work as an administrative assistant for the Bentonville / Bella Vista Board of Realtors. Her boss at the Board of Realtors stated she did the work of a CFO and admired her greatly.
Marilyn and Dale loved to travel. They visited 48 states, excluding Maine and North Dakota. They also traveled to Mexico and to Europe and took a 29 day bus trip to Alaska for over 1000 miles. She had magnets from everywhere.
Marilyn loved her family more than anything. She loved to spoil every one of them. She kept up on technology to stay in touch. She could text and used Facebook avidly. She commented on every post. Despite that, Marilyn still hand wrote letters to Taylor so he could have mail to open. Marilyn was a wonderful cook, and family really loved her ham salad.
Marilyn and Dale returned to Eureka to be close to Sheila and her family. She was a member of the local caregiver support group and Women's Community Benefit Club.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Mabel and William, her sister Freda Gibson, her brother in law Neil Sauder, brother in law Floyd Wayne Gibson, and sister in law Sherry Sauder and grandson Jeremy Houchin.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Dale of Eureka, daughter Sheila and husband Jerry Houchin of Severy, Ron and wife June of Dallas, TX. Granddaughter Laurie and husband Rob of Severy. Grandson Adam and wife Crystal of Severy, Grandson Ben and wife Heather of Howard, Sisters Lola Thirton and husband Bill of Topeka; Frances Hays of Osawatomie and brother Rob Phillips and wife Beverly of Lawrence; Great grandchildren Taylor and wife Jen of DeKalb, IL, Tylyn, Tanner, Evan, Weston and Dawson of Severy, and Cora of Howard, KS. She also has 4 foster great grandchildren; Braden, Bryson, Kaylee and Miah of Severy. They all loved her and will miss her dearly.
