Marinea Louise Phillips' Obituary
Marinea Louise Phillips, age 81, formerly of Belle Plaine, passed away at Kansas Christian Home in Newton, KS, where she had lived for the last year. Marinea was born January 13, 1935 in Howard, KS, (by Doc Moon on the way to the hospital in Winfield) the daughter of Oscar Homer and Nellie Permelia (Van Royen) Shipman, and the last of eight children.
She attended school in Howard and remembers Doc Moon giving her a nickel every day after school for an ice cream. While in high school she worked part time in the post office. On Dec. 26, 1974 she married Leroy Phillips in Wichita, KS. Marinea worked for both Beechcraft and Boeing in the manufacturing department, and as a secretary for Cappers News.
She is survived by granddaughters; LaTisha, LaTosha,LaNette, LaTonya, LaCynthia, and LaChelle, daughter-in-law; Colleen Hinman, several great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marinea was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Leroy, son; Jerald L. “Jerb” Packard, brothers; Merritt, Mervin, Meriel, and Millard Shipman, sisters; Mildred Schneider, Minnie Armstrong, and Mary Houston.
Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, May 3, 2016, 2:00 p.m. at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard, KS. Visitation will be held Tuesday May 3, 2016, 1:00 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, KS 67349. Family suggests memorial to either American Heart Associtaion or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, and may be left with the funeral home.
