Marion Lee Bailey's Obituary
Marion Lee Bailey, 78, passed away March 19, 2017 in Chanute, Kan.
Marion was born Oct. 12, 1938 southeast of Chanute, the son of Francis M. and Mary Velma (Fuller) Bailey. He attended Abbott Elementary School, Royster Junior High, and graduated from Chanute High School in 1956, where he served as FFA class president.
Marion was fortunate to meet the love of his life, Pattie Charlene Brookshire, at a young age, and they had their first date to the church Valentine’s Day party at the age of 14. On June 29, 1957 Marion and Charlene were married. They were blessed with three sons; Scott, Monty and Michael. They would have celebrated their 60th year wedding anniversary this June.
Marion grew up on the family farm and went to work at Mid-America Refinery after working construction in Topeka, Kan. He joined the Chanute National Guard in 1960 until 1966, attaining rank of Special 5. Marion worked at Ash Grove Cement Company for 29 years, retiring in 2000. He always enjoyed his family, farming, automobiles, sports, going to the casino and fishing at Grand Lake.
Marion was a lifetime member of Elks Lodge and American Legion. Marion was a member of Shaw Christian Church.
Marion is survived by his wife, Charlene; his son, Scott and wife, Nanette, and family, Adrienna and husband, Gage Tiller, and MaKenzie and husband, Zach Balderson; his son, Monty and wife, Tina, and family, Blake Bailey, Kayla and husband, Cody Markham, Haley Carter and partner Mark Knapp, and Chelsie and husband, Jeremy Wheeler; his son, Michael, and family, Lexi and fiance´ Zack Bonds, and Adam Bailey; and great-grandchildren, Kaylee Bonds, and Cohwen, Joryn and Kipten Wheeler.
Marion was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has been requested. Family graveside will be at a later date.
