Mary A. Lorentz's Obituary
Mary A. Lorentz, age 86, a resident of Fredonia, Kansas passed away Thursday, April 12, 2007 at Fredonia Regional Hospital. Mary was born on June 6, 1920 in Alma, Kansas to William and Sara Gillaspie Schweitzer. On March 1, 1939 she married Cal Lorentz in Salina, Kansas. He preceded her in death on June 25, 2006.
During World War II Mary went to work for Lockheed Aircraft and became one of the women known as Rosie the Riveters. She worked as an office administrator for Lorentz Oil Company in Fredonia. Mary worked with Cal in CalMary Real Estate and she worked for several years for Bartlett’s Jewelry. Mary enjoyed playing bridge, working on crossword puzzles, sewing, and cooking wonderful meals for her family and friends.
Mary is survived by three sons; Riffel (Cuff) Lorentz of Wichita, Kansas, Fred Lorentz of Fredonia, Kansas, and Michael Lorentz of Overland Park, Kansas, one sister Della (Jerri) Rooks of Phoenix, Arizona, nine grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters; Veva Mae Moore and Lee Ella Ballard.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in Fredonia with Rev. Charlotte Coates officiating. Family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. Family suggests contributions to the First United Methodist Church and may be sent to the funeral home.
