Mary Elizabeth Ann Newman's Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Ann Newman, age 86, of Chanute, KS passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 in Chanute. Mary was born on September 24, 1930 in Southampton, England the daughter of Leslie John and Dorothy Irene (Comley) Reid-Laurie.
When Mary was very young and still living in England, her father passed away. Then, during WWII, her mother fell in love with an American soldier from Chanute named Dana Goltry. In 1946, Dana returned to his home in the states and he brought his war bride and her daughter, Mary, with him. In 1947, Mary graduated from Chanute High School but she didn’t remain in Chanute for long. In 1950 she returned to England and there she met and married David Newman on November 15, 1952 at Church of the Ascension in Southampton, England. They had two children together before moving back to Chanute in 1961.
Mary loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to knit and was very talented at it. She loved to give her blankets as gifts for babies and she also made hats and scarfs for church charities. Mary was member of the BPW, Democratic Party and Bottle and Relic Club.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents.
Cremation has been requested. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com.
