Mary Frances Reed's Obituary
Mary F. Reed, age 87, passed away at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center May 14, 2025. Mary was born August 17, 1937, in Humboldt, KS. to Richard R. and Gladys Williams. As a young girl they moved to McCune, KS. where she attended school. Her parents owned a café there for many years.
Mary married the love of her life, Vester L. Reed, March 20, 1954 in the home of Judge Knoch in Columbus, KS. They were married 69 years until his death September 25, 2023. Mary retired from the Chanute Tribune. She attended the Living Word Assembly Church. She enjoyed camping, traveling, and playing games. They spent many years going to the Kansas State Fair in their 5th wheel. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and her dog Sparky.
Mary is survived by her children; Vicky Reed, Chanute, Vester R. and Cheryl Reed, Chanute, Kathy Oliphant and Dennis; Jet, Oklahoma; 8 Grandchildren: Chase Reed, Chanute; Lauren Reed, Chanute; Heath and Klasee Reed, Emporia, KS, Shawn and Misty Oliphant, Tennessee, Richie Oliphant, Anthony, KS, Amanda and Joe, Hawley, McKinney, TX; Aaron and Dawn Thomas, Gardner, KS, Adrianne and Josh Dent, Chanute, KS., good friends, Kent and Peggy Frazell and Carl and Carol Truster, and 12 Great-Grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Vester, her parents, and sister Wilma Mishler.
Graveside Services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute on Monday, May 19, 2025 at 10:00 am. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home.
