Mary Margaret (Margie) Taliaferro Hukle's Obituary
Mary Margaret (Margie) Taliaferro Hukle, age 91, of Severy, KS, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, KS.
Mary Margaret was born September 12, 1927, in Eureka, KS to John and Lulavon (Speer) Flock. She was raised on a farm near Indian Creek southeast of Severy with her three siblings. She grew up during the Great Depression; fun time was spent at family gatherings as well as swimming and fishing.
She attended Severy High School her freshman through junior years, but graduated from Winfield High School in 1945 after the family moved from the farm. She began her teaching career that fall at a country school outside Rock, Kansas, after completing college courses at Southwestern College. While raising a family and teaching full time, Margie took night and summer courses, earning her degree from Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia in August of 1967.
April 15, 1947, she married Raymond Taliaferro. Together they raised four boys. Raymond passed away in 1986. In January 1998, she married Frank Hukle; Frank passed away in 2004.
Margie was a wonderful cook, making sure her family ate a large breakfast together before leaving the house for chores or school each morning. Then at the end of the day she made sure everyone had a full meal at night no matter how late everyone got back to the house. She sincerely loved people, wrote letters to friends and family, and read bible stories to children. Margie never took herself so seriously that she couldn’t laugh at herself. Later in life she became the local historian and would give talks to many groups telling the history of Severy.

Brother: Donald and wife Judy Flock of Rockport, MA
Sister: Beverly Fuqua of Peace Valley, MO
Grandchildren: Jonathan and wife Cynthia Taliaferro, Christopher and wife Tara Taliaferro, Sarah and husband Gavin Lutman, Lindsey and husband Kevin Nieman, Matthew and wife Paige Taliaferro, Darris Taliaferro, Christine Taliaferro, and Haley and husband Paul Shattuck.
12 great-grandchildren
Margie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond Taliaferro, son Tim Taliaferro, husband Frank Hukle, and brother Ronald Flock.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2019, 5-7pm at Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, KS
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at 1:30 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Severy, KS
There will be a private family burial to follow.
Following burial, friends are invited to a reception at the church annex.
