Mary Lovina Varndell's Obituary
Mary Lovina Varndell, age 83, of Chanute, KS, passed away March 15, 2015 at Autumn Grove Alzheimer Assisted Living Cottage in Humble, TX surrounded by her family. Mary was born January 14, 1932 the daughter of James and Stella (Cline) Nelson in Cowley County, KS.
Mary graduated from Chanute High School in 1950. On June 2, 1950 she married Robert Eugene Varndell in Iola, KS. Robert and Mary lived in various locations including OK, TX, SC, NM, and Norway before settling in Chanute in 1985. Mary held several secretarial positions during that time. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was active in church support activities. She was also a member of the V.F.W., and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; James and Stella, husband; Robert, brother; Roy Thomas Nelson and infant son, James Alfred.
She is survived by her children; Linda Sherwood (JK) of Houston, TX, Kathy McMillen (Bill), of Chanute, KS, and Robert Varndell (Pam) of Houston, TX, grandchildren; Katie Marshall, Chad Varndell, Jason Varndell and Riley McMillen; great grandchildren; Garrett, Jackson and Presleigh Marshall and Maxson McMillen.
Rosary will be prayed Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Altoona, KS. Suggested memorials are St. Patrick Catholic Church Fund or Cherry Street Youth Center and may be left with the funeral home.
