Maurine Mildred Ford's Obituary
Maurine Ford, 93, of Chanute, passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023, having lived what she frequently described as a “very blessed life”.
She was born to the late Ivan and Luena (Brock) Mears on February 28 1930, in Buffalo, Kansas. Maurine graduated from Buffalo High School in 1948 and received a Bachelors Degree in Education from the Pittsburg State University in 1964, as well as a Masters Degree in Education in 1974.
She was blessed to be married to a “good man,” Myrl Ford, in 1951. They lived most of their life together on a farm in rural Humboldt, KS. They were blessed with three children, Nancy (Rick) Qualls of Chanute, Karen (Steve) Hemphill of Baldwin City, and John (Juli) Ford of Miami, Oklahoma.
Her “beautiful” grandchildren include Christie (Heath) Hansen of Plainwell, Michigan, Stacie (Jacob) Stich of Chanute, Richard Qualls of Lawrence, KS, Matthew (Samantha) Hemphill of Lawrence, KS, Sara (Sawyer) Zook of Lawrence, KS. She considered all five of her great-grandchildren to be very special blessings.
She is survived by her brother Arnold Mears and preceded in death by her brothers Donald Mears and John Mears.
Maurine, an avid reader, was blessed with a sharp mind and a love for learning and teaching. She began her teaching career in a one room school house called Brown School in 1949 and ended it in 1992 after teaching hundreds of six-year-olds how to read at Humboldt Elementary School.
She was a member of Colfax Baptist Church and later attended First Baptist Church of Chanute. She enjoyed reading her Bible and learning about her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her last days were full of anticipation of going to be with the Lord, her greatest blessing of all.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm at Countryside Funeral Home with services to immediately follow at 2:30 pm.
