Maxine Thorne's Obituary
Born in Severy, Kansas in 1941 to John and Margaret Allison, Maxine Thorne would live a life whose theme was “others.” When she was 10 years old, she asked Jesus to come into her heart. She was married to Dwight “Shorty” Thorne in Howard, Kansas on July 15, 1962. In the years that followed, she gave birth to five sons: John, Jeff, Jim, Jerome (Tony) & Jay. They moved to Independence, KS in late 1970. In December of 1981, Maxine graduated as an R.N. from the nursing program at Labette County Community College and began her life’s calling to serve those in need. She served in various nursing positions in and around Independence before becoming a nursing home inspector for the state of Kansas. She retired from the state in 2010. In the summer of 2011, Maxine and Shorty moved to Covington, Georgia and began attending Eastside Baptist Church. Whether administering medication to children on an Indian reservation in Nebraska, attending to the wounds of the injured deep in the rainforest of Liberia, Africa, or delivering groceries to the needy in Stockbridge, Georgia, Maxine Thorne gave herself tirelessly and unselfishly to others. The more desperate a situation, the more passionately Maxine worked to fill the need.
While she gave of herself diligently to those in need, her most fervent energy was given to her family. She was the rock of her family of five boys whom she raised to become generous and hard-working men. To her daughters-in-law, she was loving and supportive. Her grandchildren knew Grammie as a “miracle-worker!” Her healing touch could make everything better!
Maxine Thorne was proceeded in death by her parents, John & Margaret Allison, her brothers, Carl and Ray Allison.
She is survived by her husband, Shorty Thorne of Covington, GA, her brother Virl Allison, Wichita, KS; her sons, John and Darlene Thorne, Southaven, MS, Jeff and Lori Thorne, Lansing, KS, Jim and Michelle Thorne, Covington, GA, Tony Thorne, Stone Mountain, GA, and Jay Thorne, Porterdale, GA; her grandchildren, Timothy Thorne, Bartlesville, OK; Nicole Heg, Huntsville, AL; Joe Campbell, Southaven, MS; Jacqueline Hoorfar, Kansas City, MO; Danielle Golon, Sioux Falls, SD; Alex Thorne, Brianna Thorne, Satie Brunk, Lee’s Summit, MO; Thaddeus Thorne, Lansing KS; Jostan, Jacey, Jasmine and Jamie Thorne, Covington, GA; JT Thorne, New Orleans, LA; and Keygan, Kelynn, and Karis Thorne, Porterdale, GA; Great grandsons, Cody Campbell and Arik Hoorfar along with numerous nieces and nephews.
