Melody S. Mahan's Obituary
Melody Sue Mahan was born the 18th of July, 1952 to Travis Trenton Mahan and Aileene Joy (Minor) Mahan at Shawnee Oklahoma. She entered her rest on the 5th of November 2025 at the age of 73 in the care of Morningstar Nursing Home of Fredonia, Kansas. Melody had lived in Oklahoma City, in Goodlettsville Tennessee, and lastly Moline Kansas where she had lived since 2019.
Melody grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from Del City High School in 1970 with a history of straight As. She worked for the State of Oklahoma as a clerk for a few years followed by employment as a secretary for the construction company that built General Motors Assembly Plant in Oklahoma. She later obtained her preferred employment as a legal secretary, which she continued until her retirement in 2015. She worked for several legal firms in both Oklahoma City and Edmond.
Melody leaves behind a daughter, Heather McGowen, a grandson Joshua Mahan and great-grandson Josiah, Joshua’s fiancé Shyanne Richardson, a step daughter Shana Cargile (TW), their daughters Trisha Ravenscraft (Patrick), Tyffany Finley (James) their children Knox and Knylee, Angela Guthrie (Tyson) and soon to be son Kobe, a sister and brother-in-law Cynthia and Henderson Ray, cousins Elaine Jones, Sharon Miller, Wayne Minor, Rhonda Valentine and Pamela Crawford.
Melody was an accomplished classical pianist, having studied under Dr. Libke as a teen. Melody loved to cook and all that knew her rated her as not just the best cook in the family, but the best we knew of anywhere. She was a voracious reader and wore out several library cards in her lifetime. She was a member of the Christadelphian Ecclesia Church of Longton and enjoyed attending their Bible Schools where she met her best friend and caretaker Kathy (Baker) Newman, of Eureka Kansas. Melody enjoyed fun times, and was a great friend to many, and loved letting people know about her grandson Josh, who she loved deeply.
Melody’s family wants to extend their thanks to Kathy for assisting Melody when she became unable to care for herself in recent years. Melody received excellent care at Morningstar and we greatly appreciate the staff that loved and cared for her daily. Graveside services are being planned for her interment at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee Oklahoma alongside her father, paternal grandmother (Delilah Milner Mahan), great-grandmother (Nancy Adams ‘Tina’ Mahan), and two uncles (Elmer and James Mahan).
