Mercede Joan Sell's Obituary
Mercede "Joan" (Gilson) Sell, 87, a resident of Fredonia, passed away Monday, February 13, 2012, at the home of her daughter, Sherryl Wells of Arkansas City, Kansas.
She was born to Rev. Joseph "Dallas" Gilson and Emma "Fern" (Stazel) Gilson on September 5, 1924 at Fredonia, Kansas. She graduated from Fredonia High School in 1942. On October 20, 1946, she married Herman Sell at the Christian Church in Arkansas City, Kansas. They later divorced.
Joan worked for J.C. Penneys, Bennett’s Variety, ADM, and Wilco Veterinary Clinic until retiring. She was a past member of BPW (Business Professional Woman) Rebekah Lodge and Red Hat Society.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Dallas and Fern Gilson, her former husband, Herman Sell, her daughter Jamie Lou (Sell) Carlburg-Evenson, her sister, Mary Lou Gilson, and brothers Joe and Bob Gilson.
Joan is survived by daughters Linda Sell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Sherryl (Sell) Wells of Arkansas City; granddaughters "Lynne" Debra (Wells) Shelton and husband Steve of Austin, Texas; and Amanda (Carlburg) Diskin and husband Dennis of Olathe; grandsons Nathan Relph of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and David Wells of Arkansas City; great-granddaughters Zoe Rene Wells of Arkansas City, and Elin Lou Diskin of Olathe; great-grandson Jereme Lane Shelton and wife Sarah of Austin, Texas; sisters Jean (Gilson) Pryor of Fredonia, Shirley (Gilson) Westhoff, and Carol (Gilson) Goldwater and husband Vern of Arkansas City; cousins, nieces and nephews.
Cremation has been effected. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Countryside Funeral Home in Fredonia. Burial will follow at Fredonia Cemetery.
A Memorial has been established in her name with Hospice Care of Kansas through Countryside Funeral Home, 420 S. 20th Street, P.O. Box 247, Fredonia, Kansas 66736.
