Mildred Naomi Powers' Obituary
Mildred Naomi (Studebaker) Powers, age 88 passed away Feb. 7, 2015 at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.
Mildred was born May 27, 1926 in Thayer, KS; the daughter of Harvy and Merna (Kimpton) Studebaker. She was a lifetime resident of Thayer and attended local schools.
On March 24, 1945 Mildred married Roy Powers in Chanute, KS. Roy Powers preceded Mildred in death on November 27, 2009. Mildred worked as a seamstress for a couple of sewing companies in Chanute and Cherryvale. She also worked at Gil’s General Store in Thayer, KS. Mildred’s lifetime was devoted to her family, the church and music. Mildred played the piano, then the organ for the Thayer Christian Church for 60 years. She taught piano for years and her students numbered over 200. Mildred was a talented seamstress and loved to make textile paintings. Mildred was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roy, three brothers: Carl, Kenneth and Wayne Studebaker, two sisters: Grace Gugliotti and Dorothy Tobler and a daughter-in-law Suzy Powers.
She is survived by her sons: Keith Powers of Broken Arrow, OK and Leon Powers and fiancé Loretta King of Stark, KS; a sister: Margaret Powers of Thayer, KS; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mildred are planned for Friday, February 13, 2015 at 10:30AM at Thayer Christian Church in Thayer, Kansas. Memorials are suggested to Thayer Christian Church or Hidden Haven Church Camp; they may be sent in care of Countryside Funeral Home 101 N. Highland Chanute, KS 66720.
