Mort Wilson Cox's Obituary
Mort W. Cox, 84, of Chanute, passed away Friday, January 3, 2014 at his home in Chanute.
Mort was born in Erie, Kansas on February 17, 1929, the son of L.R. and Jennie (Fleming) Cox. He was raised in the Leanna area.
Mort served his country in the United States Army from January 1952 until his Honorable Discharge in October 1953. He served in Korea with the 2nd Infantry Division.
He drove a gravel truck for Neosho County and later a Cream Truck for Neosho Valley Creamery.
He married Ruth A. Neagle on September 4, 1948.
Mort worked for Shurtleff Motor Company, then Ellis Dodge, then ran North Lincoln Auto Repair from 1980 to 2009.
He is survived by his wife Ruth of the home; three children, Debbie and Roger Dean, Bill and Corina Cox and Laura and Tim Guinotte; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jason and Amy Dean, Denton, Madisyn and Ryleigh, Jeff and Hailey Dean Dagen and Darah, Joshua and Jessica Dean Avery and Zayden, Jenni Cox and Phillip Martin and Bennett Martin and Jarrod Cox.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lela Tipping and husband John; and one brother, Dale Cox.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Savonburg, Kansas.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at the Countryside Funeral Home Johnson Chapel.
Memorials in his name may be made to Horizon Hospice and may be left with the funeral home.
