Nathan D Vestal Jr.'s Obituary
Nathan D. Vestal Jr. age 91 of Independence formerly of Longton, died Sunday July 13, 2014 at Medical Lodges in Independence, KS. Nathan was born on 03-17-1923 in rural Longton the son of Nathan D. and Iza (Howell) Vestal Sr.
After school, Nathan served in the U.S. Army. On Aug 1, 1951 in Elk City, he married Pauline Simmons. Nathan and Pauline were married for 62 years, she survives at their home.
Nathan and Pauline worked on their farm raising cattle, he also worked for Union Gas Company. After retirement they moved to the Fredonia area for a couple years then down to Independence. Nathan worked hard most of his life, he most enjoyed raising cattle. In his spare time he enjoyed working in his garden and hunting.
Nathan is survived by his wife Pauline and several nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; 5 brothers Chester, Floyd, Buford, Loran, and Virgil Vestal and one sister Velma Wicker.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday July 16, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, KS with Pastor Robin Haines officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 15, 2014 from 3-5 PM at Countryside Funeral Home in Fredonia. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com.
