Nelma Claudine (Keel) Coy's Obituary
Nelma Claudine (Keel) Coy passed away at her home in Humboldt, KS on Jan. 22, 2015; she was 85 years old.
Claudine was born in Murray, KY on Oct. 4, 1929; the daughter of Claude and Maggie (Stafford) Keel. She was raised in Dover and attended school there before the family relocated to Granite City, IL in the early 1950s. While in Granite City, Claudine met and married Kenneth R. Coy. With this union Claudine also brought into the marriage a son, Larry and a daughter Judy. She and Kenneth were blessed with one son: Don. Around 1972, the couple moved their family to Humboldt, KS, where they remained.
While in Humboldt Claudine was a member of the Faith Assembly of God Church. Before working and retiring from Midland Brake in Iola, KS after seventeen years, Nelma also worked as a waitress earlier in life. She loved spending time with her children and her grandchildren and she did it as often as she could. Her life was her family and she will be greatly missed.
Nelma “Claudine” (Keel) Coy was preceded in death by her parents; daughter: Judy (Hodges) Watring; brothers: Harlon, Roy, Leland, and Earl Keel; sister: Orlean Boner; and grandson: Dustin R. Coy. She is survived by her sons: Larry Hodges and wife Sheila of Ottawa, KS and Don Coy and wife Donna of Humboldt, KS; sisters: Geneva Fitzhugh and Verlon Fitzhugh and husband Sam all of Dover, TN. Her grandchildren: Carla Sporn and husband Mark of Sedgwick, KS; Allen Gean and wife Marsha; Mike Gean and wife Lezlie; Dana Vanatta and husband Dustin; all of Humboldt, KS; Rick Hodges and wife Teresa of Wellsville, KS; Dyana Coy of Humboldt, KS; and Heather Longbine and husband Joel of Sedgwick, KS; Grand-daughter-in-law: Tonya (Coy) Hurst of Humboldt, KS and Son-In-Law: Bill Watring of Sedgwick, KS. She is also survived by twenty-seven great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews as well as many other relatives and friends.
Cremation is planned; there will be no formal visitation. Memorial services for Claudine are planned for Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015 at 1:00PM at the Faith Assembly of God Church in Humboldt, private inurnment will take place at a later date in Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick, KS. The family suggests memorials be made to the Faith Assembly of God Church KS or the American Cancer Association; and sent in care of Countryside Funeral Home 101 N. Highland Chanute, KS 66720.
