Norma Jean Ervin's Obituary
Norma Jean Ervin, age 88 of Severy, KS, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Eureka Nursing Center in Eureka, KS.
Jean was born in Stigler, OK on January 28, 1930, to Robert and Netta (Roberts) McGlaughlin. After high school, Jean met and married Willie Ervin in 1947. They lived in Skiatook, OK until they moved to Conway Springs in 1957. In 1960, they moved to Coyville, KS and in 1963, they moved to the farm, in rural Elk County. In 1980, Jean and Willie divorced and she moved to Severy, KS. To this marriage, there were 6 children born.
Jean owned and operated the Severy Café from 1966 to 1991, where she got her reputation for the homemade pies she would make. In 1992, she went to work at the Paddock restaurant in Eureka, KS and worked there until 2005.
She was a member of the Severy United Methodist Church, Severy UMW, and the Severy Coffee Club. She absolutely loved being a grandma and would attend her grandchildren’s school activities, no matter what it was.
Jean is survived by:
Daughter: Peggy and Earnie Chaffain of Harford
Sons: Rockie and Phyllis Ervin of Severy, Randy and Nadene Ervin of Chanute, Rusty Ervin of Melvern, Ron and Debbie Ervin of Eureka
16 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren
Sisters: Sandra Pointer, Betty Hanson, Darlene Whitfield, and Lena Holland
She was proceeded in death by her parents, daughter; Sue Ann Grundy, great-grand daughter; Regan Grundy, brothers; Bob McGlaughlin and Smokie McGlaughlin, sisters; Mary Joe Eldridge, Alta Rudluff, and Ruth Morris.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 10:00 am at the United Methodist Church in Severy, KS. Burial will follow in South Lawn Cemetery, Severy, KS.
The family will receive friends at visitation on Friday, November 16, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, KS 67349
Memorial contributions can be made to the Mirza Shriners or the Ronald McDonald House, and can be mailed to or left with the funeral home.
