Norma Jean "Jean" Stewart's Obituary
Norma Jean (Gilbert) Stewart, age 92, passed away on January 25, 2015 at Diversicare in Chanute, KS. Norma was born on July 11, 1922 in Chelsea, OK; the daughter of Clyde and Nora (Harbert) Gilbert.
Jean married Dalton L. Stewart, Jr. on April 14, 1939 in Jay, OK. Jean worked at in Nowata, OK at the hospital for 8 years. She later worked and managed the The Snack Bar at the Drive-In Theater in Chanute for 2 years, owned 14th Street Café in Chanute, worked at Bains Bakery on Main Street, and then worked at Ashley Clinic for 27 years before retiring. Jean and Dalton were members of Chanute Safari Campers and enjoyed spending summers in Branson, Missouri after retirement. Jean was a member of Grant Avenue Baptist Church in Chanute.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband Dalton, Jr., her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by a son: Dalton L. Stewart III and wife Elaine of Edmond, OK, two daughters: Sandra Shore of Ponca City, OK and Darla Clemens of Chanute, KS, five grandchildren: Diana Shearin and husband Eric of Chanute, Debbie Stirewalt and husband Tommy of Chanute, Kathy Leavell and husband Marcus of Ponca City, OK, Jill Corey and husband Derrick of Frisco, TX and Dale Stewart and wife Jennifer of Edmund OK, eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 29, 2015 from 1-2 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home Gibson Chapel 16 N. Forest in Chanute. Funeral service will follow the visitation at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute. The family requests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church in Humboldt and sent in care of Countryside Funeral Home, 101 N. Highland, Chanute, KS 66720.
