Norma Jean Neely's Obituary
Norma Jean “Barnhart” Neely, 72, of Chanute passed away Monday December 23, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital Wichita, Ks. Norma Jean was born on November 14, 1941 in Erie, KS to Ray W. and Cleo M. (Kennedy) Barnhart. Norma Jean attended schools in Kimball, Stark and graduated from Chanute in 1959. Norma Jean married Larry Eugene Roush on September 1960 and divorced in September 1979. She married Jerry Jay Neely in September 1985 until his death in October 2004.
Norma Jean was a member of the VFW auxiliary and served as former past President and the American Legion. She loved going to watch her grandchildren in their music programs at school and sporting events, bowling, auctions, Nascar, Elvis fanatic, family camping, dancing, Schnauzers and active in the Senior Center.
Norma is survived by her children; Teresa Dupuy and husband Mike of Tilden, TX, Jeff Roush and wife Denise of Hendersonville, NC, Mary Roush of Chanute , KS, Laura Beth Busby and husband Brett of Chanute, KS, step-daughter Jamie Pimental of Bentonville, AR and step-son Randy Strickland of Lawrence, KS; 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren and 16 step-great-grandchildren; mother, Cleo Barnhart of Chanute, KS; siblings; Mary Haynes McNett and husband Cop of Piqua, KS, Dan Barnhart and wife Wilma of Afton, OK, Charles Barnhart and wife LeAnn of Lampe, MO, Larry Barnhart and wife Dana of Ketchum, OK, Chris Barnhart and wife Sherry of Chanute, KS, Pat Barnhart of Chanute, KS and Carol Jordan and husband Mike of Chanute, KS; numerous nieces and nephews; and her Lifelong faithful companion Sophie.
She is preceded in death by father; Ray Barnhart.
Services will be held on Saturday December 28, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 802 Main in Altoona, KS. Visitation will be held on Friday December 27, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Countryside Gibson Chapel 16 N. Forest in Chanute.
In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Laura Busby for the funeral expenses and may be left with the funeral home.
