Oliver James Catterson Sr.'s Obituary
Oliver James (OJ) Catterson, Sr., age 88, of Chanute, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2016 in Chanute Kansas. Oliver was born on April 6, 1927 in Emporia, KS the son of Oliver Guy and Grace Elaine (Dobson) Catterson.
OJ attended school in Emporia, KS. OJ was in the Army during WWII and served in Germany. In 1948, Oliver married Evonna Dorene Huffman in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. They lived in Yates Center, KS; Lawrence, KS; Arizona; New Mexico; Texas; and later moved to Chanute. OJ worked as a truck driver.
OJ and his wife, Dorene, enjoyed camping and did so for about 30 years after they retired. They would go to Texas and camp during the winter months, making a lot of new friends. He especially loved fishing and hunting with his 3 brothers and he also enjoyed boating with his family. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chanute and the VFW in Chanute.

Oliver was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorene; twin brother, Orville and two other brothers, Pat and Rex Catterson and a sister, Deanie Bietz.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Chanute. Interment will be at Yates Center Cemetery.
