Opal Wanda Whittaker's Obituary
Opal Wanda Whittaker, age 92, of Severy, KS passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in El Dorado, KS. Opal was born August 8, 1923 in Alicia, AR, the daughter of Samuel and Gladys (Burgin) Hunt.
Opal joined the Army in 1941 and served in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps until 1943. On October 12, 1946 she married Harold Forest Whittaker in Hoxie, AR. Opal was a member of Severy Baptist Church, the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and 4-H.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Harold, children; Harold J. Whittaker, Charles Whittaker, Larry Whittaker, Glenda Dye, and two stillborn sons, sisters; Loretta Doyle, Trevia Dooley, Freida Riggs, Lowenda Hunt, brothers; Donald Hunt, D.L. Hunt, Carnell Hunt, and grandson; Harold Whittaker III.
Opal is survived by her sons; Sam Whittaker of Wichita, KS, Gary Whittaker of Severy, KS, Albert Whittaker of Arizona, daughters; Gladys Sherby of Blaine, WA., Linda McVicker of Pennsylvania, brother; Larry Hunt of Black Rock, AR, sisters; Betty Hawkins of Michigan, Doris Gerritsen of Lake Havasu, AZ, 36 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren, and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 22, 2016, 2:00 p.m. at the Severy Baptist Church in Severy, KS. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, KS 67349. Family suggests memorials to the family to help with final expenses and may be left with the funeral home.
