Owen Neal Smith's Obituary
Owen Neal Smith, age 87, a resident of rural Fall River, Kansas passed away Sunday, July 29, 2012 at his home. He was born in August 10, 1924 in Ada, Oklahoma the son of Owen and Theresa (Evens) Smith.
In 1943, Owen joined the United States Marine Corps and served during World War II in the South Pacific. After being honorably discharged in 1946, Owen was united in marriage on July 28, 1946 to Wilma L. Wells in Yates Center, Kansas. Owen and Wilma were married for 66 years prior to his death. He was a farmer and stockman in rural Elk County, Kansas. Owen was a member of the Fall River United Methodist Church, a 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge, a 60 year member of Order of Eastern Star, Radiant Electric Cooperative, Fredonia Co-op, Severy Co-op and one of the original founders of the Fall River Boosters.
Owen is survived by his wife Wilma of the home, one son Randy Smith and his wife Sandy of Fall River, Kansas, one sister Betty Brown of Carpinteria, California, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Owen Steve Smith, one daughter Judy Sondree and one sister Virginia Pickell.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Fall River United Methodist Church with Pastor Susan Galvan officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home. Interment will be Friday, August 3 at 9:30 a.m. at the Fredonia City Cemetery.
