Patricia Ann "Pat" Stich's Obituary
Patricia Ann “Pat” Stich, age 89, of Chanute KS, passed away on November 17, 2018 at NMRMC in Chanute, KS. She was born on October 13, 1929 in Great Bend, KS to John and Gertrude (Jenisch) Gerritzen.
As a young girl, she worked on her family farm, then as a nanny in Chanute until she met her husband of 62 years. She joined her life with William Albert “Bill” Stich on October 24, 1953 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Piqua, KS. Their union to each other produced 3 sons and 2 daughters, but she was a mom to all she met. As a farmer’s wife, she had to be versatile from taking care of her children and the home to being a self-taught cook, which came in handy when deciding what meals she could transport to the fields. Many of the grain elevators knew her by sight because she was always the truck driver. Seeing that she never wasted time, she would do needle work while waiting in line at the grain elevator.
Pat was a 23 year Breast Cancer survivor. She was a very strong willed woman and was strong in her faith. She would share her faith with all she met and instilled it in all of her family. She always put everyone else’s needs before her own and she was the solid rock that held everything together in the good times and the bad. Pat’s favorite times were the ones that she spent with her family. Pat and Bill were lifelong members of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Pat is survived by her children, Joseph “Joe” Stich and wife Rebecka, Linda Council and husband Larry, Barbara (Stich) Myers and husband Lonnie, Michael “Mike” Stich and Dale Stich and wife Wendy; siblings, Bernice Houpt, Dorothy Menke and Helen Denton; 18 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; brother, Lewis Gerritzen and grandson, Tyler Stich.
