Patrick "Pat" Alan Shay's Obituary
Patrick Alan Shay, 55, of Fredonia, died Saturday, March 5 at his home.
Pat Shay was born Jan. 25, 1967 in Wichita, the son of Robert (Bob) and Irene (Palmer) Shay.
He attended Fredonia schools, graduating with the Class of 1985. Pat was proud to be a member of the Yellowjacket 4A state championship football team in 1983. He was known as a big-hearted, kind and generous person who loved to sing and laugh. He was active during high school in football, Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, drama, and music, appearing in “A Thurber Carnival” and performing solos at the Christmas Pageant as well as participating as a member of the pageant chorus.
Pat worked with his father at Hiland Dairy and was also engaged in farming and ranching; he served as a member of the USD 484 Fredonia Board of Education. He took great pride in supporting his daughters in their various sports and dance team performances.
He married Kaila Shinkle and they later divorced.
On March 17, 2006 he married Karla Petersen of Fredonia, she survives. Other survivors include his daughters, Danielle Guffey (Dillion) and Marcy Shay, of Fredonia; granddaughters Aubree and River Guffey, Fredonia, a half-brother Steve Bass, an uncle and two aunts. Also surviving are a host of cousins and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a half-sister.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 10 from 6-8 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home in Fredonia; funeral services will be held on Friday March 11 at2 p.m., also at Countryside, with Mike Myers officiating.
Memorial contributions have been suggested to the American Diabetes Association and can be mailed to or left with the funeral home.
