Paul Andrew Dove's Obituary
Those we hold most dear never truly leave us…Kindness they showed, the comfort they shared and the love they brought into our lives. Paul Andrew Dove, 96 of Fredonia, KS passed away August 4th, 2023, at Morningstar Care Home in Neodesha, KS exactly 50 years after his mother on the exact date. Born July 14th, 1927, the sixth and last child of Rose Neal Brendel and Ira Benjamin Harrison Dove.
Paul attended Mound school and graduated from Fredonia High School in 1945. As a young man, he worked at Self Service grocery before he was drafted on Sept. 27th, 1945, to serve in World War 2. He reenlisted in the U.S. Army where he served for over 20 years. Serving in Korea a couple of times as well as Japan, Germany and various places on the East Coast and Florida.
In the Army Paul served as a cook, small ammo weapons mechanic, 11th Airborne, Division-Parachutist-Jumpmaster, Army veterinary unit, and inspection of commercial food establishments. Having served faithfully and honorably Paul retired from the United States Army on June 1st, 1967.
Paul parachuted out of a plane on the day he married his Fredonia sweetheart Verna Grace McPherson in Clarksville, TN on Sept. 14th, 1950. They were blessed with their two children Paula Anne on Dec. 5th,1952, and Richard Paul on May 21st, 1959. Verna passed away Jan. 31st, 1997, after 47 happy years together. Later he married FHS classmate Lavon Maxwell in 2001 and she passed away in 2017.
After military retirement Paul worked for the US Dept. of Agriculture Food and Safety inspection services as a meat/food inspector for the state and federal unit out of Pittsburg, KS. His final retirement was on August 28th, 1992, where he returned to Fredonia. Paul spent many hours on the family farm in Buxton, KS fishing and hunting as well as enjoying the wildlife and nature, he and Verna worked hard to make into a conservation haven.
He will be remembered as a kind, hardworking, honest man, where his family was very important of his life.

Cremation has been requested; a Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Memorials have been suggested to the Fredonia Pound Pals and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
