Pete Marquez Guadian's Obituary
Pete Marquez Guadian, age 100, of Chanute, passed away Friday February 12, 2016 in Wichita, Kansas. Pete was born on September 4, 1915 in Hall Summit, KS the son of Abraham Guadian and Inez Marquez Guadian.
On July 15, 1937, Pete married Lela Verdin at St,Patrick's Church in Chanute. Lela preceded him in death on February 29, 2012.
Pete worked for many years as a welder at The Monarch Cement Company in Humboldt. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and worked for and volunteered for the church for most of his life. His service he was most proud of was with the Chanute Mexican Fiesta, since his childhood he was a volunteer and later was an officer and president for many years, it was the event he looked forward to every year. He was a basketball coach and a little league umpire for the American Legion Baseball League. He also played baseball/fast pitch softball for the local Mexican-American teams. Pete loved being outside and enjoyed working out in his yard. He also liked making and carving items out of wood.

Daughter: Elvira Escobar of Wichita
Granddaughter: Jaya Escobar-Bhattacharjee of Wichita
Nieces: Linda Lopez, Melody Hughes, and Amelia Serrato, all of whom were raised by Pete and Lela
Numerous additional Nieces and Nephews
Pete was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lela; niece Margo Gutierrez Lindser; brothers: Luis, Paul and Joe; and sisters: Mary and Eduvjren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chanute, KS on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. A Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. There will be a visitation on Friday, February 19, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, Johnson Chapel. Interment will be at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery.
