Rebecca Joan Lawrence's Obituary
Rebecca Joan (Ragan) Lawrence, age 83, of Chanute, Kansas, went to be with her Heavenly Father on July 14, 2026, after a determined battle against Parkinsons. Born in Cherryvale, Kansas, on June 10, 1943, she was the daughter of Charles & Georgia Ragan, and a sister to Bill. Following her mother's passing when Becky was sixteen, she was later embraced as the stepdaughter of Darlene (Frye) Ragan, gaining siblings David and Darla Frye, and later Michael & John Ragan.
Becky received her BS from Fort Hays State University, where she met Mike. They were married in 1964 and spent 62 years and eleven months in a loving relationship. Becky served USD 413 as a speech pathologist for much of her working life, and found satisfaction in helping children with speech challenges to communicate more clearly. She enjoyed live theater, reading, and most of all, having her family & friends around her.
Her faith was her anchor, and she was an active member of First Baptist Church of Chanute, where she sang in the choir, taught Vacation Bible School during the summers, and participated in the American Baptist Womens chapter there. She is survived by her husband, Mike, and her children: Stephanie (Michael Dougherty), Aaron (Julie Schiewe), Katrina (Devan Case), and Benjamin (Shari Mitchell), as well as her treasured grandchildren: Darrien Case, Joseph Dellaratta, and Jasmine Case. Surviving siblings include: David Frye (Dawn), Darla Frye Arrowsmith, Michael Ragan (Erin), and John Ragan (Jennefer).
A Memorial Remembrance and Celebration of Life will be held at 2 pm on Monday, July 20, at First Baptist Church Good News Center in Chanute, Kansas. The family requests no donations or flowers. Please come to share your memories of Becky. Arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home.
