Richard Roy Benard's Obituary
Richard Roy Benard, 75, of Chanute, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.
Richard was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 14, 1938, the son of Byron Gomer and Rose Elizabeth (McCormick) Benard.
He was united in marriage to Alma Hughlene Hood on May 29, 1959 in DeQueen, Arkansas. She survives of the home.
Richard worked for Williams Natural Gas until his retirement.
He was a member of the Westview Southern Baptist Church, was on the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Team, was a soupline volunteer, and volunteered at Chanute Health Care Nursing Home serving ice cream. He loved to play racquetball.
Along with his wife Alma, he is survived by his children, Rick Benard and his wife Melody of Newton, KS, Carolyn Hibbs and her husband David of Chanute, Mike Benard of Wichita, KS and Jill Stevenson and her husband Joe of Chanute; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two brothers, William Maurice Benard of Dallas, TX and Byron Gomer Benard II of Dallas, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Basil Benard and Robert Benard; and a sister, Betty Rossiter.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the Westview Southern Baptist Church in Chanute. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. at the Countryside Funeral Home Johnson Chapel in Chanute.
Memorials in his name may be made to Faith House and may be left with the funeral home.
