Richard Dale Buchanan's Obituary
Richard Dale Buchanan, 84, of Fredonia, was born October 27,1940 in Wichita, the son of James Clifford and Lesta Lorene (Walker) Buchanan. Richard went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 12, 2025, in Tulsa, OK.
Richard attended school in Fredonia and was married at the age of 17, the day after their wedding, Richard and Ida moved to Dodge City, KS to start their new life together. Richard worked for the State of Kansas for 42 years. In 1958 he began working for the Kansas Department of Transportation, took additional training to perform stream surveys and lastly worked with hazard waste. Richard started serving in church at age 14, leading music and teaching Sunday school. After moving to Dodge City, Richard and Ida, along with two other couples started worshipping together as an independent Bible Baptist church. Richard served many years at the Bible Baptist Church in Dodge City and Bible Baptist Church in Fredonia, leading the congregation in music, and trustee of the church. Also, Richard would lead music for special occasions at other places, sang solos and in quartets, one of his favorite things to do.
In 1999, Richard, Ida and daughter Beverly moved back to Fredonia. Richard worked at Parkview Apartments as the custodian until his health became an issue. He loved working out in his garage and putting up Christmas lights or recognizing our veterans with a display. Richard devoted his love to Ida for over 70 years (66 of them in marriage).

Five Grandchildren:
Zachary and wife Tiffany, Nicholas and wife Tiffany, Daniel and wife Leah, Thomas and wife Jaimee and Christy and husband Preston.
Thirteen Great Grandchildren:
Abi, Emily, Reyna, Caleb, Chad, Morgan, Cameron, Breonna, Beau, Samuel, Paige and Sophy and a foster child.
Sibling: Juanita (Buchanan) Franklin, Fort Worth, Texas
Richard was preceded in death by five weeks, his wife Ida. His parents, and Siblings: Maxine Hogan, Lois Buchanan, infants, Vera Katherine, Helen Lorene and James Clifford, Jr. Buchanan.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 17th, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Countryside Funeral Home in Fredonia, with burial to follow at Fredonia City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 16th, 2025, from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
Memorials have been suggested to the Fredonia High School Athletics Club and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
