Richard Wayne Kerns Jr.'s Obituary
Richard Wayne Kerns, Jr., age 46, of Chanute, KS passed away Friday, June 12, 2015 at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center. Richard was born on April 1, 1969 in New York, NY the son of Richard Wayne and Pamela (Hnida) Kerns, Sr.
Richard graduated from Chanute High School in 1987. Richard joined the United States Navy in September of 1987 and served in Desert Storm. He was honorably discharged in September of 1991, at which time he served in the reserves until February of 1995.
Richard married Laurie Halda on September 20, 1997 in Chanute, Ks. He was a member of the American Legion, American Legion Riders, Sons of the American Legion, Paralyzed Veterans of America, and the Elks Lodge # 806. Richard enjoyed spending time with his children and his grandchildren, and riding his 1992 Harley Davidson motorcycle. He also liked to travel.
He is survived by his wife; Laurie of the home, daughter; Samantha Kerns of Kansas City, MO, daughter; Chelsy Wright of Chanute, KS, son; Cody Wright and significant other Johanna of Humboldt, KS, daughter; Kaitelyn Kerns of Humboldt, KS, grandchildren; Landen and Kaydence Wright, parents; Richard and Pamela Kerns, mother and father –in-law; William and Mary Halda, sister; Renee Deering of Louisburg, KS, sister-in-laws; Stacie Halda of Gardner, KS, Michele Wright and significant other Todd Stone of Linn Valley, KS, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his daughter; Haley E. Kerns.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Good News Center. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 17, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home Johnson Chapel. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Chanute American Legion Honor Guard.
