Richard Duke McCune's Obituary
Richard “Duke” McCune age 86 of Chanute, Kansas, passed away at Heritage Health Care on Thursday, August 21, 2014. Duke was born the son of Donald C. and Ann K. (Duke) McCune on December 24, 1927 in Chanute, Kansas.
Duke graduated from Chanute High School. After graduating from high school Duke married Mary J. McCune and later divorced. On July 4, 1971 he married Bonnie McCune in Las Vegas, Nevada. Duke work for the railroad as a conductor and also traveled as apartment complex manager. Duke worked for Roger Staubak with the Dallas Cowboys in Dallas, TX. He also served in the Navy from 1945-1946 and was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. Duke enjoyed going fishing and watching sports.
Duke is survived by his daughter; Debbie Schoenhofer and husband Tom of St. Paul, step sons; Kerry Cochran and wife Penny, Doug Summers, and Steve Summers, grandchildren; Stacie McKinzie and husband Brian, Donnie Garretson and wife Lynn, great grandchildren; Kendall Winter and wife Maddie, Callie McKinzie, Micheal Madl, Samantha Walter, and Garrison Walter, great-great grandson; Braxton Winter, and sister-in-law; Donna Johnson.
Duke was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Ann, brother; Don Jr. McCune, and step son; Mike Cochran.
Cremation has taken place.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
Countryside Funeral Home Johnson Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Family suggests memorials to the American Legion or the VFW and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.
