Richard Charles Rose's Obituary
Richard Charles Sieber “Dick” Rose, age 94, passed away on June 19, 2015 at Heritage Healthcare in Chanute. He was born on October 11, 1920 at Coffeyville, KS, to Ray Albert Sieber and Myra Grace (Kelogg) Sieber Rose. Dick spent most of his early years in Sedan, KS with his grandparents. He moved to Topeka to live with his mother and stepfather and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1939.
He entered the Marine Corps on his 19th birthday. He spent most of World War II in Pearl Harbor, the Philippines and on Midway. He was honorably discharged in November of 1945.
Dick Graduated from Kansas State University with degrees in chemical engineering and geology. He moved to Chanute in 1950 and worked for Kansas State Highway in their laboratory, Oilfield Research Laboratory, Wilshire Oil Company and Young’s Welding, where he retired in 1983.
Dick married Dolores “Dee” Ashcraft on November 19, 1960 in Erie, KS. They spent all 54 years of their married life in Chanute.
He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Kathy Rose-Grippa (Paul) of Athens, Ohio, one son, Richard, Jr. of Pittsburg, KS, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a half-sister, Faye Welcher and two half-brothers, John and Bob Sieber.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Mary Louise Brockey Rose, a daughter, Charleen Louise Rose, two grandsons, Mike and Matt Grippa, a half-brother, Sonny Sieber and a half-sister, Fern.
Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the New East Hill Cemetery in Erie, KS. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2015 from 7-8 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home Johnson Chapel. Interment will be at New East Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the Chanute American Legion Honor Guard.
Family requests memorials to Castaways Animal Shelter and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home at 101 N. Highland, Chanute, KS.
