Robert J. Dowell's Obituary
Robert J. Dowell, age 85, of Longton, KS passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2015 at the Wilson Medical Center in Neodesha, KS. Robert was born the son of Clarence and Ida Fern (Bush) Dowell in Randolph County, MO. on January 17, 1930.
After graduating from high school he attended Iowa St. College in Ames, IA where he earned his Bachelor Degree. He served his country by joining the United States Navy. Robert worked as an Electrical Engineer for Boeing in Wichita, and farmed at their home in Longton. Robert loved farming, playing cards and sitting on the front porch while smoking a cigarette.
On June 3, 1951 he married Vivian Mapes in Winterset, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Clarence and Ida, son; David Marshall Dowell, brother; Bill Dowell, half-siblings; Frances Farris, Opal Leaton, Dorothy Ball, Shirley Monahan, and Karen Monahan.
Robert is survived by his wife; Vivian of the home, son; Donald James Dowell and wife Cathleen of Wichita, KS, son; Douglas Brian Dowell and wife Stephanie of Longton, KS, daughter; Marcia Jean Baughman and husband Kenton of Lincoln, NE, son; Mitchell Robert Dowell and wife Kandy of Longton, KS, 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 12, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at the Elk Valley School in Longton, KS. Visitation will be held Monday from 10:00-11:00 also at the Elk Valley School in Longton. Family suggests memorials to the Elk Valley School FFA or the Lions Pride Band, and may be mailed to the funeral home at P.O. Box 1233, Howard, KS. 67349.
