Robert Ray McCready's Obituary
Robert Ray McCready, 88, of Chanute, KS passed away on May 5, 2019 at Heritage Health Care in Chanute. He was born in Brazilton, KS to Arthur James and Lucy Mae (Johnson) McCready on June 15, 1930. Robert married Leora Louise Swink in Bentonville, AR on June 20, 1949. She preceded him in death on August 25, 2002.
Robert was a loving dad, grandpa, and great grandpa who loved his family and friends above all else. He was the family patriarch who was known for his goofy sense of humor and strength of character. Robert proudly worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for many years, moving to Independence, Lawrence, Chanute, and Topeka, where he retired. He enjoyed watching old westerns, listening to old country music, fishing, vacationing with his siblings, and gathering on the weekends with them to play cards. Robert was a 30 year-plus member of the American Legion and enjoyed coaching their baseball team in the 1960’s. He will be missed dearly by all who called him dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons Tommy Lee and Robert Lynn McCready; and siblings, Juanita Carson and Elmer McCready.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home – Johnson Chapel. A graveside service will be held at Thayer Cemetery in Thayer, KS on May 9, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com.
