Roger Dean Jones' Obituary
Roger D. Jones, 61, of rural Eureka passed away Sunday, August 7, 2016 at his home. He was born April 27, 1955, in Fredonia, to Clifford and Nadine Jones of Severy. He attended Severy, Fall River, and Howard school where he graduated from North Elk Class of 1973. Roger was united in marriage June 16, 1978 to Kelley W. Shaw of Eureka. The couple lived in the Severy area until they moved northwest of Eureka in 1988.
Roger developed a lifelong love of horses that was developed as a child as he learned from his Grandfather to drive and work a team. Only recently were tractors used to replace the team for working the ground. He was an avid rider, enjoyed looking after family and friends livestock. This trait he passed through to his children and grandchildren. He had all kinds of toys from horse drawn equipment to a buggy and surrey.
Roger loved being outdoors and only knew hard work. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Loved being “Gramps” and teaching his grandchildren the way around a horse.
He is survived by his wife Kelley of the home; parents of Severy; five children: Justin W. Jones of Florence, and Jeffrey D. and Renee (Hein) Jones, Jonathan M. Jones and Claudia Deeder, Janessa W. Jones, and Jared R. Jones, all of Eureka; five grandchildren, Trenton W. Jones, Braden D. and Ethan J. Jones, Rorie M. and Keon L. Jones, all of Eureka; one brother, Donnie and Frankie Jones of Douglas; one sister, Sharon and Bill Eade of Eureka and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister Donna Foulke and one infant brother.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 13, at 2:00 pm. at Phillips Cabin. Memorials have been set up for the Christ Lutheran Church in Eureka and the Kansas Ranch Roping Association. Countryside Funeral Home in Howard, was in charge of the arrangements.
The family requests no flowers. They ask that everyone spend some special time with someone they love and take them out to supper.
