Ronald Lee "Ron" Koester's Obituary
Ronald Lee Koester, age 65, of Chanute, KS passed away at his home Friday, December 19, 2014 surrounded by his family. Ron was born October 27, 1949 at Iola, KS. the son of George Joseph and Rosella Marie (Thummel) Koester.
Ron attended Saint John Catholic School in Iola, KS, and St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Chanute, he then went to Chanute High School where he graduated from. Ron joined the Navy in 1968 and served until 1972. On October 26, 1973 he married Rita Meredith in Miami, OK.
He was a life time member of the V.F.W and also was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Ron is survived by his wife, Rita of the home, son, Matthew Koester and wife Kara of Chanute, KS, step-son, Alan Govert and wife Sebrena of Wichita, KS, daughters; Maggie Downey of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Melinda Brooks of Chanute, KS, brother; Eugene Koester of Chanute, KS, sister; Doris Boyd of Claremore, OK, 11 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, and 5 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; George and Rosella, and sister; Shirley Ann Pugh.
Rosary will be prayed Monday, December 22, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Family suggests memorials to Catholic Charites and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
