Rosazella "Rosa" Hubbard Allen Leatherwood's Obituary
Rosazella “Rosa” Hubbard Allen (Hubbard) Leatherwood, age 91, passed away at Deseret Health and Rehabilitation Center on Jan. 23, 2015. Rosa was born on Jan. 24, 1923 in Scammon, KS; the daughter of Harry H. and Lela Deloris (Clark) Hubbard. She was raised in Siloam Springs, AR and Brentwood, CA, coming to Chanute, KS in 1968.
Rosa was baptized by the Assembly of God Church at the age of twelve. At age fourteen Rosa began teaching Sunday School and did so for several years of her life. She was a member of the American Legion and the VFW Auxiliaries. Rosa was a foster mother of fifty children and adopted and raised four of them. Also, she ran a day care center for ten years known as Rosa’s Day Care in Chanute, KS. Rosa enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, and grooming beautiful flowers, especially iris’ and exotic day lilies.
In 1971 Rosa was united in marriage to John K. “Jack” Allen, he preceded her in death in 1991. On March 4, 1994 Rosa married Kenneth Leatherwood, he survives at the home in Buffalo, KS. Rosa was preceded in death by son Roger Curtis Brooks and an infant daughter Janet, also by two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by two nieces and nephews in CA; also by two granddaughters and three grandsons.
Cremation is planned; no formal visitation is planned. The family will plan Graveside Memorial Services at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery, Chanute, KS.
The family will be serving a lunch for everyone following at the Buffalo Community Center.
