Rosemary Valliere's Obituary
Rosemary Welch Valliere passed in her home on May 24, 2016 after a lengthy illness. She was born on April 11, 1942 to parents Nathanial Harrison Welch, Jr. and Lena Alto Welch. She was the third of eleven children.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Nathan and Lena, two sisters: Norma Jean Welch and Lola Stoll, and three brothers: Stoney Welch, Acey Leon Welch, and Richard Welch; all of Chanute.
Rosemary is survived by five of her siblings: Joanna Welch, Patricia Glasgow, Kay Dennis, Barbra Fulton, and Nathan Welch all of Chanute; a sister in law, Elizabeth Welch of Chanute; five children survive that were born to Rosemary and Roy G. Colston: Stephen Michael Colston of El Dorado, KS, Sheryl Ann Gormley, Anna Jeanette Mussulman, Melissa Kay Colston, and Roy Colston all of Chanute; 10 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren.
Born and raised in the Chanute area, Rosemary graduated CHS in 1960. After graduation, she worked for many years as a cook at Altas diner, at the overall factory, garment factory and then retired at 65 while working at IGA. Rosemary loved the outdoors, our time on the farm, camping and fishing on what seemed like every weekend of the summer as we were growing up. As her illness progressed, she became more confined to home. Even then, she loved watching Animal Planet, fishing shows NCIS and of course, wrestling at night.
On her ‘good days’, as weather permitted, she loved to go to Santa Fe lake and feed the ducks and watch the fisherman. In the summer of 2015, we got her out for some fishing and a wiener roast to Buffalo Lake. What a good day.
Over the last couple years we were truly blessed to have help caring for mom. Anna Mae Carey became a true friend to mom. She enriched mom’s days so much, even taking mom to her farm so she could see all the babies. Paula Drybread, a friend of our family for many years, has been mom’s night time caregiver. To see her get into and get mom excited about her wrestling and to truly care for mom. We will be endebted to these ladies for their caring for years to come.
