Ruby Dolores Read's Obituary
Ruby Dolores Read, age 80, of Chanute, KS, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Prairie Mission in St. Paul, KS. Ruby was born on September 30, 1939 in Wann, OK, the daughter of Leslie Raymond and Lola (French) Smith.
Ruby graduated from Chanute High School in 1958. On March 24, 1961, Ruby married James Read in Chanute, KS. He preceded her in death in 2017.
Ruby enjoyed playing the piano, bingo, doing puzzles, avid bird watcher and being on a bowling team for many years. She was very talented at crocheting and made sure the entire family had Afghans and she even made them for the 1st Christian Church fundraisers. Ruby liked to go on walks and was known for finding junk and turning it into treasures. She was known for her baking, especially her homemade cinnamon rolls and bread. Ruby was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Christian Women’s Fellowship and the First Christian Church in Chanute.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; sister Margie Smith and brothers, Merle Smith and Chuck Smith.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, October 25, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home Johnson Chapel in Chanute, KS. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Chanute, KS. Interment will follow at Buffalo Cemetery in Buffalo, KS.
