Ruth L. Benson's Obituary
Ruth L. Benson, 93, of Chanute, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the Heritage Health Care Center in Chanute.
Ruth was born in Chanute on March 7, 1920, the daughter of Roy F. and Viola Belle (Frazier) Dalton. She graduated from Chanute High School in 1938.
Ruth was united in marriage to William E. Benson on July 5, 1941 in Chanute. He preceded her in death in February 1980.
Ruth worked at the Chanute Tribune for 24 years, working the front desk and in the circulation department. She also wrote the American Legion Bulletin for 30 years plus and volunteered at the Senior Citizens Center for over 15 years.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the American Legion and V.F.W. Auxiliaries and the Chanute Senior Citizens Center, where she was a regular card player. She enjoyed watching sports, especially Jayhawk Basketball and the Chiefs.
Ruth is survived by her son Bruce and his wife Kathy of Desoto, TX; grandchildren Trey Nicholson and Livvy Benson; and her loyal friend, Cathy Card.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bill; and a brother, Lloyd Dalton.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the Countryside Funeral Home Johnson Chapel in Chanute. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials in her name may be made to Chanute Senior Citizens Center or the American Legion Baseball Team and may be left with the funeral home.
Services have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home Johnson Chapel in Chanute.
