Ruth L. (Hummer) Heilman's Obituary
Ruth L. Heilman, Chanute, passed away on December 31, 2014. She was born July 18, 1921, in Chanute to Fred and Edith Taylor Hummer. She was a graduate of Chanute High School and a member of the National Honor Society.
She was a former secretary at K. C. Snyder Ford Agency, Thayer High School, Neosho County Courthouse, Mid-America Refining Co., Consolidated Oil Well Services, Inc., and Bideau Law Office. She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, O.U.M. Women, having served as President and Secretary for many years. She was a volunteer at the hospital snack bar and an officer of the NMRMC Auxiliary.
She married Harold Heilman September 3, 1939. They lived on a farm south of Urbana until 1979 when they moved to Chanute. He passed away December 2, 1997.
Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and George Zugmier, Scottsdale, AZ, and Betty and Steve Slusher, Wichita; five grandchildren, Gregory Zugmier, Scottsdale, AZ, Cheri Thompson, Peoria, AZ, Jennifer Todd and husband Ryan, Wichita, Melissa Mackey and husband Josh, Wichita, and Jordan Slusher, Wichita; one great-grandchild, Chloe Todd, Wichita; one sister, Shirley Bailey, Chanute; one brother, Larry Hummer, Marietta, GA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, one son, Ronald Heilman, brother Glenn Hummer, and sister Virginia Young.
Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 5, at Otterbein United Methodist Church. Graveside service will be at 2:00 at Memorial Park Cemetery with Countryside Funeral Home in charge.
