In his spare time, Samuel liked to go fishing, and became an avid collector of guns, knives, antiques, different styles of lighting and cigar boxes. His collection also included having numerous friends, being neighborly and kind to those he met.
On June 30, 1971, Samuel married Ruth E. Kuykendahl, they were married for almost 50 years until her passing on January 26, 2021. Samuel had a love for his Miniature Pinscher dogs, but most importantly, was the love he had for his family.
