Sarah Mae Byard's Obituary
Sarah Mae (Bryan) Byard, a long time resident of Moline, KS, went to be with her LORD on January 17, 2016 at the age of 83. Sarah had been a resident of the Howard Twilight Manor for 9 years and had just recently moved to the Pleasant Valley Nursing Center in Sedan, KS.
Sarah Mae was born at home on April 18, 1932 to John H. Bryan and Olive Lucretia (Miller) Bryan of Moline, KS. She was the fourth of five children.
Sarah was united in marriage to S.M. “Skeet” Byard on December 24, 1949 in Hopkinsville, KY, while they were visiting Skeet’s family in Clarksville, TN (SURPRISE!). To this union were born two sons: Mark E. Byard born February 22, 1951 and Mack E. Byard born May 17, 1953.
Skeet and Sarah Mae made their hone in Moline, KS, just east of Sarah’s parents and lived there until health problems required her to enter Howard Twilight Manor in Howard, KS.
Sarah was a homemaker and stayed very busy taking care of two very active boys. She taught the Kindergarten Sunday School class at the First Baptist Church of Moline for many years, where she became renown for her popcorn cakes that she would make in different colors for her students on their birthdays. Many still talk about this treat yet today. Needless to say, no one ever missed their birthday Sunday.
Sarah was known as “Mrs. Clean” around the home, vacuuming, dusting, and doing laundry every day, usually starting right after she got Skeet breakfast, made his lunch and off to work around 5 a.m., (even on the weekends). Sarah enjoyed cooking, mowing the grass, and gardening. She was a dedicated Christian and made sure her family was in church, and that they came to know the LORD early in life.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Goldie, and her three brothers, Norval, Vertus, and John J.
She is survived by her son Mark and his wife, Catherine, of Ponca City, OK, and their three daughters, Shannon, Johanna, and Laiken, and son Mack and his wife, Vera of Elk Falls, KS and their daughter Janet, of Severy, KS, and her four children, Hannah, Hunter, Tarik, and Jayde.
Mom we thank you for all your hard work and sacrifice you made for us during your life. We don’t say “Goodbye”, just “Until Later.”
Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016, 2:00 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, KS, 67349. Family suggests memorials to either Harry Hynes Hospice or The Gideon’s International, and may be left with the funeral home.
Countryside Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
