Sherman Ashley Jr.'s Obituary
Sherman Ashley Jr. age 75, a resident of Hamilton KS, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2009 at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka, Ks. He was born February 10, 1934 in Junction City, Kansas to Sherman Ashley Sr. and Zelma Martin.
He was united in marriage to Janice Hawkins on September 20, 1958 in Emporia, Kansas. They were married for 50 years, until his death.
Sherm served in the United States Army as a teletype operator in Japan. He received his Specialist in Education Degree from Emporia State. Sherm spent several years as a teacher and administrator. He enjoyed playing golf, watching NCAA basketball, as well as fishing, bowling, and doing projects with his son Steve serving as “Executive Advisorâ€.

John R. Ashley of Fall River, Kansas
Dan Ashley of Michigan
1 Step Brother:
Charles Hoggatt of Virgil, Kansas
2 Grandchildren: Brian and Taylor Ashley of Topeka, Kansas
Several Nieces and Nephews.
Sherman was preceded in death by his parents, son, Curtis Ashley; brother, Dean Ashley; half sister, Irene Benton; 2 half brothers, James and Lewis Roberts.
Graveside Services will be held Saturday April 25, 2009 at 2:30 PM at Virgil Cemetery in Virgil Kansas, Pastor Mark Demas officiating. Visitation will be at 12:00 PM until 2 PM at the Virgil Fellowship Hall. The family suggests memorials to the Madison Food Bank or the Eureka Ministerial Alliance and may be left with the funeral home at the time of service.
