Shirley Mae Cline's Obituary
Shirley Mae (Collum) Cline, age 79 of Fredonia, Kansas passed away in Independence, Kansas on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
Shirley was welcomed into this world on October 7, 1946, in Phoebus, Virginia to Edward and Thelma (Bradey) Collum. After graduating from Kecoughtan High School in 1964, she worked in several banks in Virginia and Texas where her banking experiences helped her develop a teller’s notebook. She then became not only a teller but teacher creating banking methods for uniformity within the bank because Shirley taught many others her methods in classes.
While in Virginia, Shirley met Robert “Bob” Cline, on a blind date in February married on the 23rd of May. Since Bob was active duty, the two moved wherever military orders sent them including Virginia, Missouri, and Texas. After retiring in 2007 they then moved to Fredonia to help care for Shirley’s mother-in-law. They were happily married for 48 years until Bob’s death on January 13, 2021.
Shirley was an avid traveler. She made several trips between Kansas and the East Coast with her sister in tow. I’m sure they were lively trips with Shirley’s bubbly personality and tour guide ability.
Shirley is survived by her sisters; Anne Baker, Lynda Gulbranson (John), Nancy Harriman (Daniel), and sister-in-law Sherryl Weber (Glen).
She is preceded in death by her, sister, Kathie Rowe, and husband, Robert. Shirley will be remembered for her warmth, friendliness, devotion to friends and family, and Jesus Christ.
Cremation will take place under the direction of Countryside Funeral Home and Shirley will be laid to rest with her husband Robert at Fredonia City Cemetery. The family would like to thank Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice for the excellent care they provided to Shirley.
