Shirley Joan Hastings' Obituary
Shirley Joan Hastings, age 84, formerly of Longton, Kansas passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at the Medicalodge Nursing Home in Independence, Kansas. She was born July 5, 1930 to Doyle L. and Nora Oree (Ferguson) Cale. She started high school in Howard for three years and then went to Fall River High School and graduated in 1949.
She met Harold Hastings in 1950 and was united in marriage on January 20, 1951. Shirley became a member of the Longton Baptist Church in 1951. After the death of Harold she began playing her guitar and singing at the church and eventually became the song leader. She also played and sang at the Longton Jamboree. Shirley enjoyed her music very much, and she also like her flowers and visiting with all her friends.
She is survived by two daughters Debbra Blakemore and Hollie Pierce both of Independence, Kansas, one sister Pat Gray of Longton, Kansas, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold, one daughter Mary Jo Hastings, and one grandchild Cura Fiscus.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2014 at the Longton Baptist Church with Pastor Mack Byard officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Longton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Longton Baptist Church and may be left with the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.countysidefh.com.
