Steven Lyn Swader's Obituary
Steven Lyn Swader, age 79, passed away on January 3, 2026, in Chanute, Kansas. He was born on June 10, 1946, in Topeka, Kansas, and was adopted by Ora and Geraldine (Smith) Swader, who lovingly raised him.
Steven graduated from Hayden High School and went on to build a distinguished 40-year career in cosmetology. He owned and operated several cosmetology establishments in Topeka, Kansas, where he was well known for his dedication, skill, and commitment to his clients.
In September 1965, Steven entered the United States Navy, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Vesuvius as a signalman. He was honorably discharged in February 1969.
On April 26, 1969, Steven was united in marriage to Carol Leann (Bosse) Swader at the Church of the Assumption Catholic Church in Topeka, Kansas. He is survived by his wife, Carol, along with their children and grandchildren.
Steven is survived by his daughter, Julie (Swader) Soest, and her husband Michael Soest, and their children Roderek, Marissa, Drake, and Grant Soest; his son Derek Swader, and his wife Kimberly (Mullinix) Swader, and their children Carter, Camden, Caleb, and Eliana Swader; and his son Christopher Swader, and his children Katie Boyden and Darren Swader.
Steven enjoyed fishing and camping and especially treasured the time he spent with his children, grandchildren, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
A private interment will be held in Wheaton, Kansas. Friends and family are invited to gather in celebration of Steven L. Swader’s life on Saturday, May 9 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the Onaga Senior Center (200 Bypass Road, Onaga, Kansas 66521).
